Australia fest awards ‘Parting’ as best film

‘Parting’ grabs best film title at Sydney festival

Iran-Afghan joint production ‘Parting’ wins the 'Best Feature Film' award at the 6th Persian international film festival in Australia.

Directed by Navid Mahmoudi, ‘Parting’ was given the Golden Gazelle statuette in Sydney.

The story depicts a teenage couple who love each other, but the arrival of the girl’s family from Afghanistan divides them. Years after the separation, Nabi, the boy, pursues to locate Fereshteh, the girl in Europe, but gets himself into trouble doing so.

Two other Iranian movies, ‘Breath’ by Narges Abyar, and “Not Yet” by Arian Vazir Daftari were also honored at the festival; meanwhile ‘Save Me’ by Mohsen Nabavi was picked as the best short film.

In two other events on the sidelines of the festival, Iranian filmmaker Amir Naderi’s movies ‘The Runner’ and ‘Monte’ were reviewed, and the late acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami was praised.

Founded in 2011, The Persian International Film Festival is a one of a kind festival that showcases films by Persian-speaking filmmakers of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, and through screenings, master classes and cultural events it celebrates the rich cinematic culture.
